Merry CHRISTmas!!!\u00a0\u00a0It was so, so nice to be home for the weekend but I must admit, I’ve had a hard time getting in the \"\"<\/a> Christmas spirit, it’s just getting here too fast and it doesn’t seem like we’ve had any time to prepare our hearts for what the season means.\u00a0 We are\u00a0back in\u00a0for Jake’s 3rd Round of chemo.\u00a0 We’ve been here since Monday evening and just\u00a0squeaked in with his \u00a0numbers… the main one that kept us from being admitted last Thursday\u00a0needed to be at\u00a075000, it wasn’t, but\u00a0when we got here Monday it had made it to\u00a079000, so we barely made admission.\u00a0 We’ll\u00a0be released Saturday, hopefully. He’s done great and handling the new drugs\u00a0well, the nausea has been well-managed\u00a0and I’m so thankful and relieved.\u00a0 Today is the first day he woke up nauseous.\u00a0 We’ve upped his nausea meds, hoping that will help so he’s been sleeping\u00a0a lot of the\u00a0day.\u00a0 Eating is key and he wants none of it.. not even cheese pizza.\u00a0 When we were first getting settled Monday night, two of our nurses\u00a0warned that this chemo combination has a tendency\u00a0to be “the one” with lots of \"\"<\/a>throw up.\u00a0 One of the drugs this time is Cisplatin “si-SPLAT-in”, Nurse Monica said with a good giggle.\u00a0 Until today, we’d been without a lot of\u00a0“splatin”.\u00a0 The other chemo drug can have some respiratory side effects and\u00a0he also woke up with a weird\u00a0cough this morning, so we’ll be watching that closely.\u00a0 Jake’s hearing test has been moved to this afternoon, rather than tomorrow.\u00a0 Sure hope he’s cooperative as he really feels bad. We need this information as we never got a baseline on him\u00a0prior to beginning his chemo – there were so many things they were\u00a0trying to get done and this one didn’t make it.\u00a0 This will now be our base line. (Hearing loss of some sort is a\u00a0one of the common, permanent side effects of chemo in kids.) The past \"\"<\/a>few days have been busy with meetings with a team from\u00a0Basic3\u00a0Genetic\u00a0Study we’ve chosen\u00a0to participate in and meetings about Jake’s Stem Cell Harvest.\u00a0\u00a0Our dates for harvesting Jake’s stem cells has been moved up.\u00a0 We start Saturday and the first \"\"<\/a>part of the process are GCSF\u00a0injections to build up his marrow fast\u00a0and high… they will harvest in the millions of cells.\u00a0 Once his counts are where they need to be, they will put a catheter into his leg, hook him up to a big dialysis looking machine, and start pumping.\u00a0 It will probably take two days but they’ll go\u00a0until they have what they need.\u00a0 Then they’ll freeze all of his cells until it’s time to put them back into his body.\u00a0 There is a lot more to it but that is the short of it.\u00a0 I’m NOT looking forward to it, I’m especially nervous about the shots.\u00a0 I don’t do needles well at all – I\u00a0get really queasy.\u00a0 The plan is that Henry will play nurse and give the shots, and I will hold and comfort – they’ll train\u00a0us on Saturday.\u00a0 As for the week… it’s gone really well.\u00a0 Jake has seen Santa twice while we’ve been here, played with HUGE penguins and a juggling elf, we’ve had visits\u00a0to the floor by the FBI, a Texan football player, Miss Texas,\u00a0the Houston Police.\u00a0 The playroom has been staffed almost all day each day\u00a0(usually only open a few hours each day), we’ve had the Fun Cart and Snow Cone carts come by, and he’s had LOTS of energy to take the police car for a spin and try to arrest his favorite nurses..\u00a0 All and all, a pretty good Round 3.\u00a0 Here’s to a really good “in-between” of Round 3\/Round 4, with NO neutropenic\u00a0fever hospitalizations.\u00a0 Especially since we were honored with a photo session from the Magic Hour Foundation to photograph Jake and our family.\u00a0 They are a wonderful foundation helping cancer patients\u00a0and\u00a0we are so looking forward to meeting our photographer Kelly Garvey.\u00a0 You can \"\"<\/a>check out their information at\u00a0http:\/\/www.magichourfoundation.org\/<\/a>\u00a0 We ask you to pray with us over Jake’s stem cell\u00a0collection process… that it’s smooth, quick and as painless as possible and we’ll be praying for all of you as we are so very blessed by your friendships and prayers.\u00a0 As the past two days have been spent with lots of kids rolling their chemo poles behind them with smiles and giggles, with\u00a0Santa and Christmas carols being sung in the halls by\u00a0visitors bringing encouragement and gifts and cheer, it reminds me just how\u00a0precious our children are.\u00a0How precious we are to Jesus.\u00a0\u00a0So my next few days will be spent trying to get there… wishing you God’s blessings and love…\u00a0and a\u00a0Merry CHRISTmas!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
