So\u00a0it’s Lucky #9… The neutrophil\u00a0dance must have worked yesterday because NINE DAYS LATER, we are headed home!\u00a0 As I sit and write, Jake is\u00a0juicing up on platelets, yet again, so we can leave this afternoon and\u00a0make it through the weekend.\u00a0 His ANC is still really low at 170 but they are giving us our Freedom Card and we’ll take it!\u00a0 That means the kids will strip and shower when they walk in the door from school!!\u00a0 Usually they don’t let\u00a0Jake leave until\u00a0he hits 250 –\u00a0500 after a neutropenic\u00a0fever hospitalization.\u00a0 For you and me, this would signal something really bad going on, but for a cancer patient, they are considered\u00a0out of the “severly dangerous neutropenic\u00a0zone” and heading toward “normal”.\u00a0 In no way is he\u00a0free and clear to go into the big world of germs\u00a0and crowds\u00a0but\u00a0he can go back to the isolation of\u00a0his\u00a0own home.\u00a0 (In case, you were wondering, a healthy person has an ANC of between 2500 – 6000.)\u00a0\u00a0We have a few days home and will be back here\u00a0for the day on Monday\u00a0so we will rest and enjoy. \u00a0The past couple\u00a0of days, we were both hitting some low spots,\u00a0the isolation and loneliness\u00a0is hard\u00a0and not seeing a discharge date in sight wears on you.\u00a0 But as I like to quote my friend Scarlett… “tomorrow is another day”.\u00a0 AND IT IS!\u00a0 Jake is telling everyone that walks in our room that he’s going home, we’re all smiles!\u00a0 \u00a0Thank you all for praying… I know there were a couple of big prayer requests that circled yesterday among my church ladies and I’m so thankful.\u00a0 Thank you to EVERYONE of you for lifting Jake up, my heart is full of joy today, I wish I could hug you all and you could see the happy dance going on in here this morning!\"Dee's<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
